Nigeriadecides2023: Voting commences early at Abuja polling unit

A chief in Chikakore Village, John Azachey, was the first to cast his vote at the Chikakore Polling Unit 6, Chikakore Ward, Kubwa, Abuja, for the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Azachey voted at about 8:50 am about ten minutes after accreditation started at the unit.

The chief who spoke to our correspondent noted that he was excited to perform his citing right.

Azachey said, ” I am happy to have been able to vote and I have also encouraged my people to vote for their chosen candidate.

” Nobody will force any candidate on anyone; that is the best way to ensure a peaceful election.”

Also, The PUNCH observed that elections started early at the Polling Unit and things were done orderly and peacefully.

Also, the unit didn’t experience any form of technical issues with the two BVAS machines available.

The Presiding Officer of the polling Unit, Emmanuel Okpara told our correspondent that so far there was no issue at the polling unit.

He added that accreditation started at 8:40 am.

He said, ” So far, it’s been good. Our BVAS machines are working well and the turnout of voters has been encouraging.

” A total number of 1,855 voters were accredited for both presidential and Senate elections while 1,802 were registered at the point Unit for the House of Representative election.”

The PUNCH reports that although there are 18 candidates for the presidential elections, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress, Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party are the most prominent ones.
