Engr. Abubakar Ohere, the Senator representing Kogi Central, made a significant move on Tuesday as he presented his first motion on the floor of the Senate. The motion called for the urgent resuscitation of Ajaokuta Steel Company to address the local demand for steel and address the persisting issues of building collapses, bridge failures, road deterioration, and other critical structural failures in Nigeria.

Senator Ohere emphasized the need to strengthen supervisory agencies and ensure the availability of affordable and high-quality reinforcement materials, such as iron rods, to enhance the structural integrity of infrastructure projects. He also highlighted the importance of investing in the development of skilled manpower to support the country’s construction sector.

The Senator underscored the potential impact of reviving Ajaokuta Steel Company on employment generation and Nigeria’s industrialization process. He stated that the resuscitation of the steel company would not only create employment opportunities for the country’s youth but also lay a solid foundation for the nation’s industrial growth. Senator Ohere suggested that savings from the removal of fuel subsidies should be reinvested in Ajaokuta Steel Company to facilitate its revival and enable its full potential to be realized.

The motion put forth by Senator Ohere reflects the urgent need to prioritize critical infrastructures, such as Ajaokuta Steel Company, to address the gaps in the nation’s steel production and enhance the durability and safety of infrastructure projects. By advocating for the resuscitation of Ajaokuta Steel Company and supporting measures to strengthen infrastructure development, Senator Ohere has demonstrated his commitment to advancing the interests of his constituency and the nation as a whole. The success of this motion will be crucial in driving economic growth, creating employment opportunities, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of Nigeria’s infrastructure.
