Renowned Nigerian musician, Seun Kuti, has called for the establishment of a “Mohbad Law” to address the issue of intimidation by cultists in educational institutions and beyond. His plea comes in the wake of the untimely passing of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, which has raised concerns about cultism within the music industry.
During an Instagram live session with his fans, Seun Kuti expressed his belief that Mohbad’s death may have been linked to cult activities, shedding light on a long-existing problem within the music industry that poses a threat to future generations.
He emphasized the urgency of enacting such a law, stating, “A nation of cowards!! We need a MOHBAD Law against cultist intimidation in all our institutions. Anything short of that is nothing!! The National Assembly must do this monumental work to protect future generations from this scourge. #mohbadlaw.”
Seun Kuti also shared his personal experience, revealing that even law enforcement officers had disclosed their affiliations with various cult groups while he was in police custody, in an attempt to garner his support. He asserted, “When I was locked up, numerous police officers and their superiors told me about their different cultist affiliations, thinking I was one of them, so they could help me. Even the police are involved in cultism. Now, you are asking cultists to investigate cultists. #getthesax.”
