Meet Nansokaan, UNIJOS Student who Stabbed her Colleague Over Loud Music Disturbance

In a disturbing incident at the University of Jos (UNIJOS), Tangsan Nansokaan Paksohot, a 300-level English student from Chip Ward in Pankshin Local Government Area, Plateau State, has been arrested for stabbing her male co-tenant and fellow student, Julius Nember. The incident occurred on January 11, 2024, at Rusau Village behind UNIJOS Students’ Village Hostel.

Julius Nember, a 200-level Library Science student from Mbakor, Tarka LGA, Benue State, was stabbed by Tangsan in response to the disturbance caused by loud music. The university is currently in the midst of its second-semester examinations for the 2022/2023 academic session.

The Senior Deputy Registrar (Information and Publications) at UNIJOS, Abdullahi Abdullahi, and the Head of the Department of English, Prof. Jeff Doki, confirmed the incident to Arise News. According to Abdullahi, the suspect has been apprehended by the police, marking this as an ongoing police matter.

Prof. Jeff Doki, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the stabbing, explained that trouble ensued when Tangsan was studying for her ENG 322: Research Methods exam. Julius and his friends, her next-door neighbors, were playing loud music, causing a disturbance. In response, Tangsan locked Julius and his friends inside their room using a padlock.

Upon protest and subsequent release, Julius and his friends confronted Tangsan in her room, seeking an explanation for their sudden confinement. In a fit of anger, Tangsan retaliated by picking up a cooking knife and stabbing Julius Nember.

The incident underscores the challenges students face during examination periods and highlights the need for conflict resolution strategies within shared accommodation spaces. The authorities at UNIJOS are working with law enforcement to address this unfortunate incident.
