Dangote Cement Garners Federal Applause for Economic Contributions

In a resounding acknowledgment of Dangote Group’s pivotal role in advancing the nation’s economic diversification, the Federal Government has commended the conglomerate for its unwavering dedication to best practices across its operations. The accolades were echoed during the visit of the Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Iziaq Salako, to the Dangote Cement plant in Ibese, Ogun State.

Minister Salako lauded Dangote Industries as an international conglomerate, recognizing the company’s leadership in promoting best practices from conception to implementation in its manufacturing facilities. In light of President Bola Tinubu’s emphasis on economic diversification, the Minister highlighted mining as a key sector targeted for development and praised Dangote Cement’s significant contribution to job creation and export opportunities.

Addressing the challenges associated with mining activities, Dr. Salako applauded Dangote Cement’s commitment to automation and high-technology-driven operations. The visit was particularly relevant to the ongoing Environmental Impact Assessment on the plant’s Coal Mill, emphasizing the importance of sustainable mining practices to prevent adverse effects on the environment.

The Minister emphasized the need for all stakeholders, including the government, to prioritize sustainable development. He underscored Dangote Cement’s exemplary efforts in balancing economic growth with environmental responsibility and social impact assessments. The company’s proactive approach, he noted, sets a benchmark for others to follow.

Representing Governor Dapo Abiodun, Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, highlighted the substantial financial contributions Dangote Cement has made to the state through levies and taxes. He called for increased collaboration between state agencies and the company and expressed the state’s readiness to support Dangote Cement in various capacities.

Plant Director, Mr. Azad Nawabuddin, showcased the plant’s extensive social investments and infrastructure development milestones. He detailed the positive impacts on 17 host communities, citing job creation, infrastructure improvement, and empowerment programs. The engagement with community leaders reinforced the gratitude for Dangote Cement’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, earning the company acclaim as the “transformer and illumination of Yewaland” by the Olu of Imasayi, Oba Kuoye Olalekan. Dangote Cement’s enduring commitment to economic prosperity and community welfare remains a shining example in Nigeria’s industrial landscape.
