EFCC Records Remarkable Success with N70 Billion Recovery in 100 Days

In an impressive feat, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the recovery of a total sum of N70 billion within a span of 100 days, covering the period from October 2023 to January 19, 2024. The comprehensive breakdown of the recovery, as outlined in an EFCC document titled ‘Operations and Recoveries,’ reveals a substantial effort in combating financial crimes.

During this period, the EFCC dealt with a total of 3,325 petitions, accepting 2,657 of them. Notably, the commission secured convictions for 747 individuals involved in various financial crime offenses, including money laundering and internet fraud.

The detailed data shows recoveries by different EFCC commands and zones:

  2. Maiduguri Zonal Command: N58,065,870 and $3,370.

  9. Sokoto Command: N100,696,118.72.
  10. Kaduna Command: N331,494,710.81, $912, £50, and €1,610.
  11. Ilorin Command: N80,280,580.86 and $880.
  12. Abuja Zonal Command: N825,928,463 and $10,000.
  13. Ibadan Zonal Command: N135,519,810, $14,517, £280, and €500.

The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, revealed that a significant portion of the 747 convictions obtained during this period was related to cybercrime offenses. This disclosure came during an EFCC event themed ‘Dialogue on Youth, Religion, and the Fight against Corruption’ held at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The success of the EFCC in recovering substantial amounts and securing convictions underscores its commitment to combating financial crimes and promoting a corruption-free society.
