In an effort to enhance security in Kogi State, the government has begun construction of a new police barrack in Okene and a 100-hectare perimeter fence for the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) in Osara.

Hon. Abanika Taiye, the State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, announced on Friday that the construction sites have been handed over to contractors. These projects are a response to the recent abduction of CUSTECH students on May 9, 2024, highlighting the state’s commitment to bolstering security measures.

The Commissioner praised Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his swift response to the incident and dedication to ensuring the safety of citizens. He noted that the perimeter fencing project is anticipated to be completed within 6-9 months.

“The construction of the Police Barracks in Okene, a key economic and socio-political hub in Kogi Central, underscores Governor Ododo’s efforts to make Kogi State safer for its residents,” said Hon. Taiye.

Engr. Suleiman Kabiru, the state consultant, explained that the perimeter fencing will include facilities designed to create a robust security architecture for the university. He commended Governor Ododo for his proactive approach to security.

Prof. Abdulrahaman Salawu, the Vice-Chancellor of CUSTECH, expressed gratitude to Governor Ododo for addressing the security concerns promptly.

The contractors, RSA Global Investment Limited and MUSALIB INVESTMENT LIMITED, have committed to completing the projects within the stipulated time frame, assuring the state of their dedication to the task.
