SSANU and NASU Declare 7-Day Warning Strike Over Withheld Salaries

SSANU and NASU, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union respectively, have jointly declared a 7-day warning strike. The strike is in response to the non-payment of four months’ salaries that were withheld from their members after the nationwide strike in 2022.

The decision to initiate the strike was reached during a meeting of the joint action committee of the two unions held over the weekend in Akure. Mohammed Ibrahim, the President of SSANU, disclosed the decision in Abuja on Monday while addressing journalists. He emphasized that the strike was deemed necessary as previous efforts, including protest letters and other communications with the Federal Government, failed to yield the desired outcome of salary payment.

This warning strike serves as a last resort for the unions to press for the resolution of the salary payment issue, reflecting their commitment to securing the rights and welfare of their members.
