The governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Victor Omofaiye at the commissioning of the equipment on Thursday in Lokoja said the gesture is to help the Communities combat erosion and to maintain a healthy environment.

The Governor noted that the commitment of his administration to the health and wellbeing of the state made him consistently pay counterpart funds for Newmap projects.

He charged the benefiting Communities to place the giant receptacles at the strategic places in their communities where it will be easy for the waste collection, and then use the tricycles to convey the waste to the dump sites.

He charged the beneficiaries to make good use of the materials and ensure their maintenance. He warned them against converting the investment to personal use, saying the project is capable of generating employment as waste will be converted to wealth.

Gov. Bello reminded them that, the environment is the survival of humanity and any abuse of the environment will negatively affect the people. In a remark, the project coordinator of Agro Climatic Resistance in Semi-Arid Land ACRESAL Barrister, Ladi Jatto, commended Governor Yahaya Bello for creating enabling environment for the Agency to deliver her mandates.

She advised the beneficiaries to put their training into practice to generate wealth from the waste, urging them to always clear debris from gutters and channels to avoid flooding.

She decried the attitude of the Nigerians to poor maintenance culture advising them to adopt the equipment as their own.

Speaking on behalf of the benefiting Communities Yakubu Shaibu Mohammed thank the governor for the gesture and promise to make judicious use of the equipment for the benefit of their people.

The benefiting Communities include Ogane Aji in Ankpa LGA, Ozuomi in Adavi, Lokoja in LGC,; Adum in Ofu and Agasa in Okene local government councils.
