Why we Increase Education Budget - Kogi State Government

The Kogi State Government has announced a significant increase in the education budget for the year 2024, with a focus on revitalizing the education sector and positioning the state as a leader in education nationwide. Wemi Jones, the Commissioner for Education, made this revelation during a meeting with Principals of Secondary Schools and representatives of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).

Explaining the rationale behind the budget increase, Jones emphasized the government's commitment to restoring the glory of the education sector and elevating Kogi State to a prominent position as one of the most educated states in Nigeria. He underscored Governor Ahmed Ododo's dedication to education, highlighting the release of funds for the payment of examination fees for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), Basic Six, and Common Entrance Examinations for pupils in public schools across the state.

Jones assured stakeholders of the government's determination to uphold the educational legacies of previous administrations and urged principals, teachers, and parents to collaborate with the government in implementing education policies and programs effectively. He emphasized the importance of stakeholders' cooperation in ensuring the success of government initiatives aimed at enhancing the state's educational system and contributing to its economic development.

Encouraging stakeholders to familiarize themselves with the State Education Law of 2020, Jones emphasized the need for compliance to avoid any lapses in the implementation of education policies.

The meeting convened various stakeholders, including representatives from the state's Science, Technical Education and Teaching Service Commission (STETSCOM), the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), principals of public secondary schools, PTA representatives, and local council chairmen from across the state. The gathering aimed to foster collaboration and brainstorming on strategies to effectively implement the government's free education policy and enhance educational outcomes in Kogi State.
